When you are in leadership, educational leadership you often find yourself in different situations something like the scenario in this section. A situation where you are caught in the middle trying to figure out if your character and integrity outweigh the good faith of your superiors. In the scenario, it states that your boss gave incorrect information because he wanted to impress his superior. If this situation happened to me, I would first consider my company and its mission. I would consider my morals and character in this situation, and honestly, I would consider my own benefit in this situation. While having some discomfort I would first address my boss and let him know of his mistakes and give him an opportunity to correct them. If he is not receptive or doesn’t correct them I would address them and correct them because leaving them incorrect would not only affect him but the entire organization. Also, in these situations, you have to consider what God has in store for your future. God has to be involved when dealing with the hierarchy of leadership. The bible states in Ephesians 6:12 states ” for our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. With that being in my mind I put on the armor of God and walk in purity allowing God to direct my steps. Lastly, in a scenario like this, I would do the same.

The concerns I think I would have in this situation are, if my input would be seen as respectful or out of line, would my feedback be valued and receptive, would my correction be taken as overstepping or out of line, and would I lose the trust and faith of my boss or my boss’s boss.  The goal here would be to ensure the information being conveyed by my boss is the most accurate so that the execution is efficient. The tricky part lies in the conviction my boss places on looking good in front of his boss so the way the information is relayed is extremely important. Making a statement that is seen as challenging the validity of the information given by a superior can be looked at in a negative or positive light.

 

My husband is in a leadership role at his company. He recently shared a story with me about a message that was given incorrectly over the intercom. This resulted in a huge misunderstanding and ultimately a write-up of his colleague because the details relayed had to do with overtime pay. The colleague informed everyone that if they worked later, they would receive 3 xs pay, not 2xs the pay, as he was instructed. People were so excited but confused at the same time. Many of the managers had to stop what they were doing to relay the proper information to each member of their team. Thinking about the example that Chaleff gives, I can see why it would be necessary to speak up in a situation like this.

 

The way I would handle this situation could have the potential to make or break my career, so I would want to be as discreet as possible. After the inaccurate information is given, I would ask the room if a small break can be given to go over some important information. I would then lean over to my boss or walk over to them, if they were not seated next to me, then I would tell them we should step out of the room for a second to discuss some important details. (Sinek, 2019) gives tips like being empathetic, thinking of others as humans, and building good relationships with bosses. Removing aggression and using empathy are great tools to use when you present issues to management.

 

The values that could be in conflict in this scenario are accountability, achievement, balance, compassion, challenge, collaboration, contribution, growth, influence, kindness, knowledge, leadership, learning, loyalty, openness, respect, responsibility, reputation, stability, success, and trustworthiness. The deliverance must be done correctly.
